What is Howcroft Industrial MRO?

Howcroft Industrial MRO manages 5 data types including leads. Helps you organize, track, and share your work in 1 place for teams and solo users.

What's the difference between sealed (2RS) and shielded (2Z) bearings?

Sealed bearings (2RS) use rubber contact seals that retain grease and block contaminants — ideal for dusty or wet environments. Shielded bearings (2Z) use metal shields with lower friction but less protection against fine dust. For most industrial applications 2RS is the safer choice.

Which internal clearance should I choose — C2, C3 or C4?

C3 is the most common clearance for general industrial use as it allows for thermal expansion. C2 is tighter for precision applications, while C4 suits high-speed or high-temperature setups. If you are unsure, C3 is the safe default.

What are the most common causes of premature bearing failure?

The main culprits are inadequate or incorrect lubrication, contamination from dirt or moisture, misalignment and overloading. Correct installation with the right tools and a regular re-lubrication schedule can dramatically extend bearing life.

Can I swap my bearing for a different brand?

Yes. Bearings are largely standardised by ISO dimensions, so SKF, FAG, Timken and ISB equivalents are interchangeable by part number and dimensions. Use our Competitor SKU Converter to cross-reference your part.

Quick answers to the most common technical questions

Measure the inner diameter (bore), outer diameter and width in millimetres, then use our Bearing Lookup tool to match those dimensions across SKF, FAG, Timken and ISB equivalents. Even partial measurements usually narrow it down to a single interchangeable part.
